To Each Her Own

Traditionally, all bridesmaids in a wedding wear the exact same dress for a matched, uniform look. The styles and these designs have always varied, but now the traditional hold on this element of weddings seems to be giving. One of the older variations of bridesmaid’s dresses came in the form of “the rainbow.” Popular in the ’80s, brides would pick one style of dress and each bridesmaid would wear the dress in a different color. Though this is rarely seen anymore, brides are giving their friends more leeway in this department. In the last few years we’ve seen more brides choosing a color and cut of a dress and allowing each bridesmaid to choose, with approval, their own dress. For example a bride might specify that they want red, cocktail length dresses and send each girl on her way. One may end up strapless, another halter top, etc. However, this trend seems to expanding to where some brides may not even restrict brides on style. As long as you specify how formal it should be, allowing girls to choose various different dress styles can add a unique and creative look to your wedding. The beauty of this trend is that it allows each girl to feel comfortable in her dress. One of the age old problems of bridesmaid dresses has been finding a dress to fit various body types and shapes. With this trend you eliminate that problem and perhaps even have a happier bridal party as the girls will likely choose a dress they really like and will wear again, reducing the complaints you have to hear about that “uncomfortable, impractical” dress you chose. Besides, you’ll want a good-looking bridal party so those photos you pay so much for are worth looking at.
