With the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in April of this year, now might be a good time to get close to a piece of British wedding history without having to travel across the pond to be a part of it.If you want to get close and personal to royalty you might want to make plans to see Princess Diana’s wedding dress as it visits the Grand Rapids Art Museum in Michigan and then moves on to Kansas City, Missouri’s Union Square on March 4th.In addition to the iconic wedding dress of Princess Diana there will be at least 150 personal items related to the Princess on display including dresses that span the 16 years that she was in the spotlight which will include dresses worn during the Royal tours of Canada and New Zealand in the early 1980s, evening dresses by couturier Catherine Walker from around 1990, and little black cocktail dresses by designers like Versace (one of her favorite designers) from the mid-1990s.The wedding dress worn by Princess Diana was designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel and includes a 25-foot train. The designer of Kate Middleton’s dress is still being kept under wraps, but it has been hinted that Bruce Oldfield has been selected even though Harold Tillmon, head of the British Fashion Council , urged her to give an “unknown” British designer an opportunity to show their talent by being selected.Only time will reveal what dress might next be on display.
